Third Grade:  Where Readers Become Leaders!

In third grade, students strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills by analyzing texts and expressing detailed ideas, while advancing in math with multiplication, division, and problem-solving. They also explore science concepts like ecosystems and weather, and develop social studies understanding of communities and geography. In Mount Vernon City Schools, third graders dive deeper into reading by exploring a variety of texts to improve comprehension and critical thinking skills, while refining their writing through narratives, reports, and opinion pieces. In math, students focus on mastering multiplication and division, as well as tackling multi-step word problems to build strong problem-solving abilities. Science lessons introduce topics like ecosystems, weather patterns, and basic physical science through hands-on experiments and observations. Additionally, social studies expands students' understanding of their community, geography, and history, all while fostering collaboration and communication skills.
